Finding Your Balance
Simple Steps to Integrate Fitness and Wellness into Your Busy Life as a Mom and or working lady!
Hey Glow Mama!
First off, let me say how thrilled I am to have you here with me on this journey. Now that we’ve gotten to know each other a little bit, I want to dive into something that I know is on all our minds: Finding balance. Because let’s be honest, balancing motherhood, work, and everything in between sometimes feels like juggling flaming swords while riding a bicycle on a tight rope!
But here’s the truth—balance doesn’t have to be an impossible goal. In fact, the secret is about making small, manageable tweaks to our daily routine. And that’s exactly what we’re going to explore today.
Step 1: Prioritize Your Well-Being (Yes, You!)
I remember when Adams was just a baby, and I was drowning in diapers, spit-up, and an endless mountain of laundry. The last thing on my mind was self-care. But then one day, I realized I was running on fumes—physically, mentally, and emotionally. That’s when it hit me: I couldn’t fill others’ cups when mine was dry!
So, Mama, this is your reminder to prioritize YOU. It doesn’t have to be big—start small. Maybe it’s 15 minutes with a good book, a cup of tea, or a short walk around the block. Trust me, those little moments add up and make you feel human again.
And for those about to tell me.. and what if I don’t have 15 minutes!
If you don’t have 15 minutes now, imagine how much more time you’ll lose when burnout catches up with you. Taking a few moments for yourself today could save you hours of exhaustion and stress tomorrow. You’ll find you have more time and energy when you’re not constantly running on empty.
Remember, self-care isn’t about the time you spend, but the intention behind it. Even the smallest effort counts.
Step 2: Set Small, Manageable Goals
If you’re anything like me, you love the idea of setting goals but often feel overwhelmed by their size. Here’s the same secret: start small. I’m talking about micro-goals that fit into your day without turning your schedule upside down.
When I first got back into fitness after having Adams, I started with 10 minutes of stretching every morning. It wasn’t much, but it was something. And that little something became my foundation.
What’s one small goal you can set for yourself today? Maybe it’s drinking an extra glass of water, doing 10 squats during your coffee break, or walking during a meeting if you don’t need to present. Whatever it is, make it doable.
Step 3: Sneak in Movement Wherever You Can
I know what you’re thinking—Who has time for a workout? I hear you! But what if I told you that you don’t need an hour at the gym to stay active? The trick is to sneak movement into your day wherever you can.
When Adams was a toddler, my workout often looked like a dance party in the living room (with him as my dance partner, of course). Sometimes, it was doing squats while folding laundry or calf raises while brushing my teeth. Little bursts of activity throughout the day can add up, and before you know it, you’ll be moving and grooving without even thinking about it.
Step 4: Simplify Your Nutrition
Let’s talk food. As much as I love cooking, I know that the thought of meal prep can feel like just another item on an already endless to-do list. But eating well doesn’t have to be complicated.
One of my go-to tricks? Keep it simple. I like to prepare a few options at the start of the week—like grilled chicken, quinoa, and chopped veggies—so I can mix and match for quick, healthy meals. And here’s a bonus: involve your kiddos! Adams loves to help “cook,” and while it may take a little longer, it’s a great way to teach healthy habits and spend quality time together.
Here’s a quick, easy recipe to get you started:
Glow Mama’s 10-Minute Power Bowl:
Base: Quinoa or brown rice
Protein: Grilled chicken or chickpeas
Veggies: Spinach, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers
Topping: Avocado slices, a sprinkle of feta, and a drizzle of olive oil
Mix it all together, and voila—a nutritious, delicious meal in minutes!
Step 5: Embrace Mindfulness (Even for Just a Minute)
Let’s face it—motherhood can be chaotic. That’s why finding even a minute of calm can do wonders for your mental health. When life gets overwhelming, I like to take a few deep breaths and just be present. It’s amazing how much a minute of mindfulness can reset your mood.
If you’re new to mindfulness, start with something simple. Close your eyes, take a deep breath in, hold it for a second, and then slowly exhale. Repeat a few times, and feel the stress melt away. Here is a meditation video I enjoy listening to daily.
You’ve Got This, Mama!
Remember, balance isn’t about doing it all—it's about making small, sustainable changes that help you feel your best. Whether it’s sneaking in a quick workout, preparing a simple meal, or just taking a moment to breathe, you’ve got this. Start with one step, and watch how it transforms your day.
I’d love to hear how you’re finding balance in your life. In the comment section let me know what small changes you’re making, or share your challenges—
Until next time, keep glowing, Mama!
With love and a whole lot of support,
